Just Set Up A New Tropical Tank And Have A Few Questions

You could proobably add one or the other but not both. The otos really aren't much of a factor in the stocking plan as they produce very little waste.

yea thats what i mean

ether guppies or the platys
definately not going to add both

which of the two do you recomend? keep in mind i already have 2 female and 1 male platys in the tank

Getting another 2 female platys would mean adding less fish so in that sense it would probably be better. With guppies, you would need to add 3, a male and 2 females, to keep the mix right.

final question:
which of the two produce less waste?

im not going to be adding new fish for another 3-4 weeks to help my current fish get used to the tank
but i just want to know ahead of time so i dont end up buying the wrong ones

i understand that if i add guppies i would most likely have to add at least 3 (2female an 1 male) but they are also smaller than platys so wouldnt the end result be the same?

the fry from either fish would be moved to a seperate tank for a few months and then either sold to the LFS or given away friends/family/neighbors
so overcrowding wont be much of a problem especially since im going to buy another tank very soon

o and btw i noticed some of you refered to me as "she" but im actually a 19 year old guy lol
dont worry about it though, no hard feelings haha

That would have been me. I don't know why unless I was thinking of another post. Sorry for the slip up.

Anyway, I doubt there's much difference in the amount of waste they produce.
