Mr Bean is rubbish.  Absolute rubbish, it makes me cringe.  Total waste of Atkinson's true talent.
Watch Blackadder series 2 or 3 (not 1, they hadn't got his character fully fleshed out at that stage) - he plays a smart, sarcastic and mean character and it's very very funny.

I did watch one episode of it on youtube... it was more interesting than Mr. Bean certainly.  Never a Mr. Bean fan myself, but that was my first exposure to Atkinson - the BlackAdder has a lot of costume, so he doesn't look the same.  That helps.
