Don't think I've ever been more surprised :hyper:

I was feeding the fish as normal and suddenly a tiny cory came bumbling out of the rockwork heading straight for the catfish pellet I'd just put in - I thought I was seeing things 'cos I'd never seen any eggs or fry or even mating behaviour

I had no idea cories would breed in this tank as it's a high tech planted one, and I've done none of the things that would encourage them, so I'm pretty chuffed!

Question is, is there anything I should do, or just carry on as normal? At 1.5cm it's way too big to get eaten by any of the other inhabitants, and it's clearly getting by on the same food as the others, so I guess I should just let it get on with it?

Ah that's lovely Tanksalot! You must be doing something right. I'd imagine he/she is ok especially if it hasn't been eaten up to now. I'd love to find a baby cory. :good:

Thanks, Fintastic - maybe they like the 50% water changes I have to do every week...who knows? :)

I saw a second one this morning :hyper: Both of them came out of hiding during feeding time, so they're obviously getting bolder as they grow. I'm amazed they managed to escape the attentions of 7 adult cories plus an assortment of tetra and rasbora to make it this far. Must be lots of nice hidey-holes in my tank! :D

That's great! Hopefully someone might be able to advise you on how to keep them safe but like I said, you're doing something right.
Maybe someday my lot might get busy.... :D

I'm so envious!! I found one last week, and somehow 3 days later I found it stuck to the filter intake.

I guess if they can survive in the wild without our help, they can usually make it in our tanks! Congrats!!

I was reading somewhere that if you do a big, cool-ish water change when there's a low pressure system passing over (ie, when it's raining!) that can spur them into action. Worth a try, possibly?

Aw...that's heartbreaking

Gotta say, they look so fragile when they're that small that I'm trying not to get attached, because I imagine the chances of them making it to adulthood aren't all that good. I'm just hoping for the best. :)

Congrats on your newly spotted babies :good: - must be little fighters,i sure they'll make it to adulthood if they've survived this long :good:

Will keep fingers crossed

I've now seen a third one pop out of hiding this morning

This one is about half the size of the first one, so is it likely to be from a different spawning, or do the eggs hatch at different rates? Or perhaps the young just develop at different speeds? I'm new at this, so I haven't a clue!

How exciting! I'm so envious of your found treasures. They're probably from different batches if the size is so much different. Then again I had 11 bronze babies hatched the same day, and 2 of those were HUGE after the first couple of weeks! Everyone survived, but those two led the pack the whole way.

When do we get to see some photos??

Ah...so no way of knowing for sure.

Thanks for reminding me! OH put a video of the first one on youtube the other day and I forgot to post a link  clicky those catfish pellets don't half make a mess

We're trying to get video of all 3, but they are SO shy, it's proving difficult :grr:

Excellent! Beautiful fish you have. I love how the neon kept trying to sneak a little snack from the fry.
