My 30l tank is filling up with platy fry and has 4 of the larger ones were chasing the younger fry born last week i decided to put them in the main tank.

They're about a month old and have grown a fair bit, probably 3/4 inch long now,is this too soon to be with the old fish?

The platies did chase them, but the worse was the harleys they were dive bombing them trying to catch them!!

Anyway the 4 are in hiding but they're popping out every now and then, hopefully they'll make it

Well they've been in there a few hours now, still surviving!!
Mother trying her hardest to catch them!!
Here's some pics :)

Here's the 4 i put in

2 being brave

pee a boo...

This one wishes he wasnt bright ornage!!...

They look just big enough to survive with adult platies and rasboras. Much smaller and they would not make it.

Well they're all still alive,1 is hiding under a plant the other 3 are up the side of an internal filter, they venture out but if the adult fish threaten them they shoot back up the side,so at least they're be cautious at the moment

Mine aren't that big yet (mine are only 2 weeks) and all 6 of them now swim freely amongst the fish - the fish sometimes chase them but they never look like they are going to eat them. They even come to the surface at feeding time now too. So I would have thought your month old ones would be fine.

Thanks, well the largest orange one is being brave and trying the adults out, they seem to be slowly getting use to it,i just hope they all find enough food whilst staying up by the filter,i did try to put some there but the fry hid further down and ignored it. o well we'll see how they go

Thanks :good:

They all still alive,2 of them are being bold swimming by the adults, they give chase then give up

They are training those adults Harlequins. It won't be long before the smallest fry can swim right up to an adult with no real danger. My guppy and endler tanks both run on that principle. Even my Limia tanks have a mixed age that makes new fry pretty darned safe.

I think they're well trained now, :good: all 4 are being bold in the open, adults don't see bothered now although do give chase every so often

And they're growing a lot faster than the other month old fry in the small tank,i might try a few more of the larger ones in there :good:

I've given about 30 of my last lot of babies away at about 2 months old because my tank was getting full! I've only got a 90 litre tank, and 50 baby platy, 4 grown platy, 4 neon tetra and 2 lemon tetra the tank was getting a little full!

Unfortunatly (ish) one of my fully grown red wag platies is about to pop! so I'm hoping she wont have as many as the last one!

thats good i cant put fry into my tank untill there about 2cm or my synos will eat them. i had 42 guppy fry in a breeding trap the sunk they all looked of when i went to bed so i left them woke up the next morning and had no fry but had some very fat catfish lol

ahh thats a shame, although the catfish had a feast!!

Well because these 4 are doing well i added another 6 this morning ,so survival of the fittest!!
