Ok, so I know I'm going to breed Rocket or Emerald, most likely Rocket because he does not have the problem with his gil. It's one of Synirr's babies, so they are Plakat DT Geno. Now, since Rocket is pink, I'm thinking about breeding him to a purple female Plakat, which my lfs always has in stock. Now, since those are just normal Plakats, and Rocket is a Plakat DT Geno, what would be the outcomes of the babies? I'm probably gonna get a female sometime within the month, cause they are the perfect size for Rocket, or will be, they are a tad smaller and I'll be breeding in April or May. Now I have a question about genetics. Will most of the babies be Pink and Purple? Or will they just be random colors? But if I did breed Emerald, even though he has the smallest gil deformetey you can hardly see if you look at him from the bottom, would alot of the babies have deformities? I would breed King, but he has a missing ventrel, though it is growing back. I just don't want to have Marbled babies, or maybe I will. I'll post pix. Now.

Are you sure the females at your LFS are plakats? I mean, it's possible, but the first thought that crossed my mind is that people are always confusing VT females for plakat females and that most LFSs don't carry plakats. If they are in fact plakats, you'd get all plakats if you bred one of mine with them. Half of the offspring would carry the DT gene like their father, but it doesn't really show.

If you don't want marbles, don't breed Rocket. Rocket is marble, he simply doesn't have any dark markings yet. He may stay skin-tone the rest of his life or he may get darker as he ages.

Breeding King wouldn't be a problem. His missing ventrals are not genetic, and not necessary for him to breed.

I don't think the babies would be any more likely to have gill deformities if you were to breed Emerald, but you never know. I'm pretty sure now that the deformities were caused by bubbles getting caught under their developing gill plates during water changes. It's worth a shot if you would prefer to breed with him over the other two.

There's absolutely no way of knowing what colour babies you'd get out of crossing them with a LFS betta, only that at least some of the babies would have red. I'm guessing the females at your LFS are lavender, considering how rare true purple bettas are at the moment? If so, you'd probably get some lavenders and a mix of other things...

Well, if I wanted some of the bettas to be Double Tail, what type of female should I buy?

Either a DT or DT geno. With a DT you'd get 50% DTs, with DT geno you'd get 25%... the only real way to be sure you're getting DT geno would probably be to buy from a breeder.

 ... I would NOT spawn with a pet store Betta either. With all of the time/money you'll be putting into all of the spawning supplies and caring for and jarring all of the babies, you might as well get a nice female from a breeder! You could always spawn with a sibling female, then there would be a higher chance of DT's and you would be sure of the purity of the tail type, and the age.

Did you know that the ideal age for spawning is 4-9 months? In April or May the babies will be well over a year (if I did my maths correctly).... just, wanted to make sure you know there IS a risk that the female and/or male will be too old to spawn.

Nah, they'll be about a year old in May, so still spawnable... just don't wait too long after that :p
Their father was a pet shop betta, so there's no problem with that as long as your LFS actually carries quality bettas... which most don't. Like I said, make sure the females are actually plakats and not veils. It would probably be wiser to go with a breeder, though, so you know the background of the fish and can choose a colour that better matches the male.

Yes they do. You should see there tanks! All of them are 20g, cleaned everyday, sponge filteration system, heaters, planted tanks, you named it! They are really good otherwise they wouldn't be able to sell stingrays, porcipine fish, eels, and those other saltwater dudes.
