i am currently on day 11 of a fishless cycle and im waiting, waiting waiting.... really trying to be patient, and ive gotta do something to keep me occupied soo im spending my time reading about everyon elses fish.

just curious as to how long peoples tank took to complete a fishless cycle. i know that they are all different and it can be from 2 to 6 weeks but id be interested to find out how long it took for ppl on here. please provide the size of your tank and the length of time it took.

hmm, maybe i should have done this as a poll

Hi my 28 uk gallon / 126 l tank took 5 weeks to finish its fishless cycling. I have now added a few hardy fish from my 80 uk gallon tank and I just keep checking the water readings.

mine was form 5 days after xmas to january but i didnt know what i was doin and shoved fish in halfway through!they died and i came on here they helped me and i started ageni waited for ages then finally it was clear!now the cycles take much faster coz i no whatim doin and i can put gravel and bacteria into the new tank form my old one

I am on day eleven, my 55 gallon is just starting to see a Nitrite spike.

My 75 gallon took 17 days.

My 10 gallon (fist time) 10 days with established media from 75.

My 37 gallon took 14 days or so.....

However, last time I did my 10 gallon (I moved decided revamp the whole tank) it took 30 days.

Only thing that was diff, was last time it was summer, this time was middle of winter. Maybe the tap water was different :dunno: who knows?

My 55 gallon took 30 days. It felt like an eternity - but it was certainly worth it! While I was waiting I'd do things like rearrange the rocks, add more plants and did tons of research on the fish I wanted!

My first tank took 5 weeks. All other tanks: 0 “zero” days.
I simply take part of the filter media from established tank and put it in the filter of the new tank. If you also use some gravel or plants, it is even better. Add some fish the same time you add filter and use as much water from established tank as possible. It will be like large water change for both tanks. Instant cycling.
Never failed me yet.
;)

My 40 gallon took nearly 6 weeks - with nothing from an established tank. Gave me time to get it planted and the plants started growing really well before any fish went in. :D
