Just wanted to stop in and say hello. I found this site through another forum, fish lore, but no one except 1 person was responding to my post and he recommended trying this one.

I have a 20 gallon tank with 6 Neons, 2 Otos, 1 Pandy Cory and 1 Cherry Red Shrimp. I've had my Neons for 1 week tomorrow. I had 7 more Neons and a Bumble Bee Shrimp previously, but those have all died of something. In all I had Neons for a total of 2 weeks. Water perimeters have been fine. I just checked yesterday and Ph is 6.6 - 6.8, Ammonia 0, Nitrite 0, and temp is about 79 to 80 degrees F. I've been gradually trying to raise it to between 80-82F. I think they may have had Ich. I was treating with ParaGuard but then switched to Nox-Ich.

I may post more about it in the disease section (if there is one) or the Neon section since this is for intros only, but I thought I'd let everyone know what I had. At this point I think I'm done seeking advice since I've lost so many now, I don't think there's anything more I can do.

Oh I'm also from Columbus, OH. I have another tank, a 55 gallon with 1 African Cichlid and some other type of Corydora, who's just as big as the Cichlid.

Hi,
Neons arent very hardy. How long has the tank been cycled? What is the reading for nitrate?
Corys should be in groups of 4/5 they wont do well on their own.....

hope this helps.

Yea you should let your tank age a bit before adding anything like Neons. Its normally about 5 months before the tank will be mature enough.

The tank has been aged for about 5 years now. I previously had Glowlight tetras, but about 6 months to a year ago my heater kicked on and ran all day and I didn't realize it until I found them all dead. I don't have a Nitrate test, they didn't come with the master test kit years ago when I purchased it. I went ahead and ordered one and should be here any day now. There shouldn't be any, or much though since I've kept up with water changes before and after getting the Neons.

My Corydora has been an only Cory for about the same amount of time (5 years or so) and he's doing fine.

Welcome fellow refugee from Fish Lore! :good:

your cory will be fine on its own, fish have individual characters and some that are advised to kept as a group sometimes isolate themselves so use your experience and ignore the usual "but i know best" statements
i had same problem with my neons, i sat and watched six die in the matter of two minutes, something was wrong, i noticed that the tanks temp was at 80-82f so i lowered it gradually to average of 75-77f and now ive had a perfect tank full (you watch someone question the fact that i say my tank is full) of lovely healthy fish..apart from the odd guppy problem from dodgy supplier.... it might be an option for you, it's up to you. good luck
