SO DO THEY?^

your tank hasn't cycled yet. as of right now your fish are swimming in toxic water. twelve is too many to have right now. maybe you could take some back to the pet store until your tank has fully cycled. here is an article on cycling. :)

[edit]
chris beat me to it! :/

But the tank is not new its been used before

Did you get the filter material or gravel from the tank and if yo did was it out of water for very long.
:D

As of right now, there isnt a sufficent bacteria colony established to eat all of the waste (ammonia) your fish produce. Basically, instead of your fish swimming in clean filtered water (without the bacteria, the filter doesnt do much) your fish are swimming in their toilet. Please read the link that Chris. provided, it will provide you with alot of information that everyone who keeps fish needs to know.

I put some water stuff that makes the water not be tap
Well the fish are doing fine

the tank may have been used before you bought it, but the beneficial bacteria have died off by then. if you use filter media or water from an established tank the cycling process is speeded. but, yeah, right now you should probably read up on cycling and all that.

good luck! :)

yes, those chemicals get rid of chlorine, but they do not get rid of ammonia, nitrite, or nitrate, nor do they add the beneficial bacteria your tank needs. your fish may appear to be fine for now, but having a lot of fish exposed to ammonia is still dangerous.

dito to what juicebox said, and also Dechlorinator doesnt get rid of ammonia, though some products detoxify it, or atleast claim to. Keep using it with EVERY water change though, if you dont your fish will most likely die. Good luck with your fish, i hope they make it.

Edit: Juicebox beat me to it... lol
