I've had two for years, you can definitely Diy them for cheaper. I have made extension pieces this way. I never use the venturi to start it I just suck and put the end of the tube in the toilet. Do be careful if you have cories, I've had more then a few go for an exciting ride, but after netting them out of the toilet they seemed none worse for the experience.
