Just got driftwood today

Is it hollow? It looks like it from the pictures.

If so just pack it with rocks till it sinks. B)

Slate will still work, I would use two on that piece, one on each end.

Sinking wood is BS, it needs to be "Water Logged" in order to just have neutral boyance. It will take months for it to loose all it's float.

Take it out of the tub, put it in the tank and wedge it in with rocks. You could pile rocks on top of the open end and wedge the rest.......

man... that is one gorgeous chunk of wood... not that i have that much experience in that area, mind you

anyways, i'm gonna try and do some maths for you tomorrow and see just how much extra weight you'll need to sink that thing. just a couple more questions and i should be able to do a reasonable approximation.

(1) is it hollow all the way through? if not, how far into it does the hollow portion extend?

(2) about how thick is that external wall?

(3) can you give me the inner or outer diameter of the hollowed end? either would work with the info for #2

(4) when you just set it into the water and let it float independently, how much of it goes under?

If it's hollow, fill it with cement. :D

I can't believe your LFS doesn't have slate, Raechal.. try asking the employees there? At the very least you can bust out some aquarium silicone and start siliconing it to the rock.

no offence mate but to say you have 1000 posts you shure dont know alot.

When will people understand that post count does not equal knowledge?

By the way.. 'to say you have 1000 posts' ...Raechal does not 'say' she has that many posts. That is what the forum code says. She makes a post, it goes into her post count.

Post counts do not determine knowledge, but rather how active a member is.

I totally agree with Little Fishie on this one, and as for you Discus Man, geeze, whats that down there..........oh! It only says 21 posts for you! Man, you dont know much then.

Well then don't assume people with high post counts know a lot. Heck, I've got a custom title and I still only own one fish! I don't know how a spong filter works!(well, I'm grasping it....).

Anyways, your best bet is to stuff it with rocks. Got any gravel lying around? That will probably work better. I know it means fish can't go in it, but its the best thing I can think of.

i know alot thank you.
Not by your theory, actually.. if you think that Raechal, with over a thousand posts, should be really knowledgable about fish, then the same logic applies to your post count. With less than thirty posts, that'd make you someone who has no idea what's going on.. One thing I am curious about though, you have 6 discus in a 45USg tank? Isn't that overcrowding?

Raech, it looks like rock stuffing is your only choice unless you can find slate. :dunno: I'd pick up some and ship it to you, but 1) I have no money, and 2) shipping rock costs a fortune!

It might be worth the wait to see if the piece will become waterlogged, and if not, call around to all the LFSs within an hour's drive, and see if they carry slate. Make a special trip. ;)

No it does not they are living happely so are the rest of the fish they are still babies though just remeber that when they grow they go with the money more will come.
Dont think i want to get rid of them i have no room in the house for a bigger tank. With my dad having a huge 5 foot marine tank downstairs.

So then the clown loaches? What about them? I'm sorry, but your tank looks very overstocked to me.. -_-

Anyway, this isn't the place for discussing this. We're in this topic to help Raechal sink her driftwood.

dont understand why some float some sink.is it just because of it being hollow.ive bought 3 bits lately including this huge bit soaked for few hrs and straight in tank, sunk straight away and hardly leaches. maybe pre soaked? but didnt looklike it in shop.
