Just Got Back From Lfs

To be honest it's a lot of fish at once, you may get a spike. How bigs the tank by the way?

Your tank is more than big enough for these fish, sounds like a nice community but watch the tiger barbs, they are quite aggressive, if you find them nipping other fish's fins, either sell them or buy more tigers, and that will hopefully keep their anger inside their school. Good luck

LFS is local fish shop =]

oh and what is '2 Moliwe pair' is that p, teaniatus?

just wondering =]

yes the tank has been cycleing for a month and molawi is like a chiclid smaller and less agressive though

When you say "cycling", what do you mean? Have you been doing a fish-in cycle, or fishless? If fishless, what method did you use and have you got a test kit?

It doesn't matter how mature your tank is, you could still get a hefty ammonia and nitrite spike now that you have added 9 more fish all at once. You need to make sure you test for ammonia and nitrite everyday for the next week and do water changes as necessary to keep the levels at zero. If everything is good and stable, then sure, add more fish in a week. Don't rush it, though.

The moliwe - pelvicachromis taeniatus moliwe? Nice fish! They are a cichlid, yeah. Great looking fish.

If it wasn't those, it might have been a misspelling of malawi - these guys are pretty nasty and shouldn't be kept with non-malawis (with the excaption of some catfish which tend to get on well with them).

Don't trust fish store staff. Some are great but it's always best to do your own research before buying. Even adding a couple of fish can and will cause an ammonia spike (even if it is just a tiny one). I dread to think what 9 fish (including a messy plec) will do!

Agree with Assaye. Nine additions could mean some pretty damaging spikes to their gills and nerves. The test kit needs to be a good one and I'd test twice a day as the onset in a 50+G could be delayed but still a quick spike.

Congratz on the new eggs. :hyper:
Have fun watching the pair keep their babies safe.
Do they look like this?

Or any of these?

Good to hear they seem to be OK.

Did you get a test kit, though? The fish "seeming" or "looking" fine is no indication of what is actually going on in the tank. If fish started swimming funny or looking sick everytime they felt ill they wouldn't last very long in the wild!

Please test your water and if you don't get a test kit, at least do a couple of large water changes over the next couple of days. Unless you know there isn't ammonia or nitrite in there, it is safer for your fish if you do some water changes just in case.
