Just Got A Quality Female Betta From Lfs!

Yes i see what you mean, i looked and though hmm Male PLakat? but i still woundt risk putting it with other females if that is what you ever were going to do

Hi, it was in a 2ft tank with about 25-30 females.

When I went to my local lfs last week they had about 6 "females" in and they looked just like the one you have bought. They were acting very agressive towards each other and I said to the chap in there how beautiful they were for females, and he just agreed. I wonder if they were sexed wrong?

I think you could be right! I have got it floating in the tank with a male HM and they have been snarling at each other for a good hour now!! Ah Well just another betta to the collection

Could also be a betta imbellis cross so could be a female but without a good picture hard to tell, has the wild shape to the body second picture.

Also noticed that the pelvic fin is quite long fin and the females generally have small ones don't they ?

Or is this not another indicator for sexing. :/

I dunno, I have a female from wuv that I would think was a male if she didn't stripe up. She's very manish. Have you noticed and ovipositor or vertical stripes since "its" been around the hm?

But the body shape and color makes me think it might have a little wild in it like bettaman suggested. I say more pics!!! :D

I agree with Bettaman about it being a possible imbellis cross, it sure is long-bodied! Looks like a male to me, too.

I did notice when i put it in the tank it had a couple of stripes from tail to head. I will borrow a freinds 8mp camera and get a better pic!! Ive stumbled across a bit of a talking point here!!!

LOLOL.... this is too funny. As long as you are happy with the fish... it is a good score.

Because it was in with other females.... does not guarantee it is a female. I have a multi marble hm plakat male in with 4 females. Going on week 3.... not a dang thing happening. (This is in no way reccomended.... but a last ditch desperate attempt to see if he has a certain color preference....or if he is to be placed on the shelf of shame.) I have a grass green masked plakat male who lived peacefully for 3 months with a female in a spawning tank.

I have seen females with anal fins that long.... just they were usually more rounded. That much of a point is more commonly found in the males.

Male imbellis hybird, in my opinion. It's almost impossible to miss, and that would explain why it was in a group tank.

Jen  I know exactly which female you're talking about!
manish

Males in female's clothing does happen, I 'accidently' picked me up a nice juvie pastelly coloured male PK from a female tank... Shame that, and I *really* wanted a 1 year+ straggly male VT :p S/he's very cute though, definately looks male to me.

No need to worry no more i found out what it is!!! ITS JUST BUILT A BUBBLE NEST!!!!
