Hi all,
I'm new to fish keeping. I have a trpoical fish tank, 28l, which was over stocked with fish after receiving bad advice from one particular local pet shop.
The fish I have remaining in the tank, after giving 4 to Pets at Home in order to ensure the health of all fish are

3 glow lights
2 orange platies
1 mickey mouse

Now, I was just cleaning the tank out to find 2 baby fish, one black and one white! Adorable. Obviously very shy as they remained in the gravel. Any special things I MUST do in order to ensure the babies survive? Such as adding new plants?

Any advice would be great, these fish are so tiny at the moment and I don't know whose they are...

Thanks x

Chances are they are from the platies - they breed like rabbits!
Plenty planting for them to hide in and finely crushed flake should be fine for them.
Chances are your platies will have more fry in 4-5 weeks and every 4-5 weeks after that. You may find that there are actually more than 2 once you add plants. They are very good at hiding!

Unless you get a separate tank their is no guarantee. But they  do find places to hide, every day that goes by they have a much higher chance of living. Good luck!

Congrats on your fry, and as has been said crushed flake and plenty of plants should help a lot.

I hope I'm not coming off as rude but I'd be more worried over the size of your tank.
The glowlights need groups of 6+ and a 60cm x 37.5 cm x 30 cm tank, this is about 70 liters. The platies would also be better off in a tank of that size.

Hello,
You aren't being rude, don't worry.

I've been advised by pet specialists that these fish are OK in the tank for now until they grow to around 4cm, then a bigger tank is needed.
I'm new to this so any advice is great, thanks!
