Just Found Baby Fish Arhhhh

Is so hard the kids wanted this soo much and the only thriving thing in the tank we have to re home lol, am I doing more than 20% today?

Yes, do another large change today & then at least 50% each day after that
Invest in a liquid test kit such as the Api one, you can get it on amazon for around£20

Ok I am in north Devon :) I am keeping an eye out for a larger tank but being a childminder don't know how safe it would be lol, when you say warm the water do you just mean leave it at room temp?

Try & get the temperature as close to the temperature of the water in the tank as you can

How would I heat the water out of the tank or is that a silly question

If you have a combi boiler you can use the hot tap, or you can boil some water in the kettle

It is the freshwater one I want isn't it?? I have test strips but as shown today they are no good lol
Lol was going to use the kettle but didn't know if it was safe lol

Thank you is on order now, do I need an algae eater and if so what's best for a small tank

In a tank that small you don't need one & tbh there isn't one really small enough

I would love a large one in my lounge when I finish working with kids but to be honest think all this has put me off, small is cute lol

Just use warm and cold water to get it as close to the tank temp.

Gripper, FWIW, here's what I'd do in your shoes...

As it's not convenient for you right now to sort out a bigger tank, and presumably you would like to interest the kids, see if the shop will take all your fish, except the fry.

Get loads of live plants which will be able to absorb the little ammonia the fry will produce, leading to a much easier fish in cycle for you. Try and get vallisneria ('vallis) a tall, grassy plant with ribbon like leaves), Java fern (dark green, wide leaves with a pointed end; best attached to wood), or cabomba (tall stem plant with whorls of fine leaves, like needles; sort of 'pond weed' looking).

Try and get some mature media from either anyone else you know who has a tank, or the shop. If you can move on the bigger fish, 20% a day would be okay for just the fry, if you have plenty of plants.

Then the kids can watch the fry grow (which they will, if well fed and given plenty of water changes) and that'll give you a few weeks to save up for a slightly bigger tank.

Use the test strips if you have them, they're better than nothing, but do as many water changes as you can anyway.

Good luck.

Thank you I am going to try to speak to the pet shop tomorrow

mix hot and cold water them take the temp ,. it wont take long to know how much of each you need to get it close , aslo im no expert but shrimp should be ok to add to a small tank i think as they make very little impact  . iv got some nano cherrys and there well cute :)
