I;m in the process of setting up my tank for discus, it currently has 4 Altum angels in there, 3 bristlenose and 2 discus oh and a rubber eel (not sure if he can stay)
I wanted some corys for the tank and Sterbai seem to be the suggestion for a discus tank annd the higher temps. Bought 6 yesterday and they are lovely but I wonder if these fish stay in a shoal at the bottom as I;m thinking of getting 6 more

The tank is 60x30x24 so a decent size.

Do they breed easily in community tank scenarios.

Although I;ve kept corys sparingly in the past I;ve never really done it properly with a group of one species

i recently brought 2 sterbais and 2 schwartzi's for my tank, and even as 2 different types of cory they stay together mostly. however they spend a lot of their time swimming into the water flow about 3 inches from the end of the nozzle. then a quick turn round and the water shoots them off down the tank, then they come back for more. apparantly very normal behaviour for all cories, but my sterbais seem far more entertained by it than the schwartzi's. they do obviously come to the bottom though aswell. saying that, my mate has a much larger, taller tank than mine and all his cories stay at the bottom, all the time. i will be getting another 2 cories at some point to make my group up to six, and im hoping to get another pair of something different.

The more you get the happier they'll be. Also my sterbai loves the bubble wall, and for some reason my 2 discus loves swimming through it too! Lol

Hi mate, yes they will shoal together but from experience they will often foam a few groups when you have a good amount and get together every so often. I had a group of 30 at one stage and they foam 3 groups but got together from time to time.

As to breeding in a community, yes they will.. however you will need to be very quick to collect any eggs laid. From knowing various discus keepers/breeders which have sterbai in the tank, the discus literally follow around and eat the eggs as there been laid.

Good choice of the cory's perfect for discus setups and one of the prettiest cory's about :good:

It was just a query bout breeding I never set tanks up for breeeding so I;ll let them just go about there business

I will get more though I think they look great but would look better in a group as the tanks footprint is quite big

Couldn't agree more mate, there isn't anything more spectacular to see than a big group of cory's shoaling literally all over the tank. My group of 30 were spectacular and in your size tank would look equally as stunning.

I'm sure a video will be in order when you up the numbers ;) :good:

of course!! :good:

I've put 6 Sterbai's in a 6ft planted discus tank with quite a lot of cover. They spawned, dotted their eggs all over the plants & I've now got at least 4 or 5 youngsters at about 1cm each. The Bristlenoses & Discus probably couldn't find all of the eggs in the plants. The previous owner of the Sterbai's was a bit put out as she'd been waiting for them to breed them for several months.

Hey, where did you get your sterbai from? Andys?

yeah got them from Andys mate, couple of weeks ago now, he had a few corys in :good:
