Just Bought Airpump, It Smells Chemically?

just bought a (Brand new) 30 litre per minute air pump and it smells like creosote, particularly the sponge. Im worried about poisoning my tanks paticually killing the fish and sponge filter bacteria. Has anyone had this kind od smell in their large airpump? what do u think it is? I am airing it out at the moment.

Could be oil ? I would let it run out of the tank for a few hours.... then you should be fine.
