Just Adopted A Rat

Hiya Laura
I'm really sorry if my post came across as patronising given you've owned rats before. Take care and good luck!
Kathy

No, its alright you're fine Kathy. I was just explaing myself. :) You know, that buck grease you were talking about resembles whats on her back and i think thats all it is but its too the point of build up that hair can't grow back, but on a female this much? Caused by alot of stress maybe? Once she's clean again her coat should come back as good as new.

I went garage saling today and picked up a bundle of baby blankets for more bedding and liners for her and my mother in law plans to bring over her huge 4 level ferret cage in hopes that the bars aren't too spaced apart for her to squeeze through(i doubt it). That would give her a palace to live in and who knows maybe if her legs get stronger, she'll be an avid climber. You never know! ;)

hmm.. could be build up, or perhaps even a hormonal imbalance? poor dear! I hope she gets better. Good to hear she's happy though. She deserves it.

Hiya Laura

Does don't get buck grease (it's a male hormonal thing) but all rex rats get patchy when they're older, with bald and thinning patches. Skin greasiness/flakiness (if that's part of it?) can be down to age from not being able to groom as well, or to diet/health. It's all pretty normal for old rats.

Sounds like she's really getting spoilt rotten (should that be ratten?), any chance of some pics?

Take care

Kathy
