John,s Reef Journal {experience Newbie}

Most literature and marine aquarists recommend a 12 hour photoperiod but it dosen't work for me.
My photoperiod is 8Hrs and as follows
Actinic on 2pm off 10pm
1st Daylight tube on 3pm off 9pm
2nd Daylight tube on 4pm off 8pm
Everything seems fine, growing and flourishing with no losses thus far.

I'm using Interpet Power Compacts (twin tube type)
2x 55w Daylights
1x35w Actinic.

I how have a red bubble algae problem and it is a PITA, one step forward and two steps back :shout: any suggestions on how to get rid of it would be much appreciated
THANKS!!!!

Yeah, stunning looking tank man. Got any pics of the red bubble algae?

Really nice tank congratulations on the success!! Mushrooms are one of those 'filler' corals that can just finsh off a section unfortunately they don't mix with a long black spined urchin (Diadema Setosum); a whole colony gone in a week.

Update
Sorry guys i know it’s been some time since my last post.

Well the last few months have been such a struggle. I have had hair algae which took some sorting out. And now I have red bubble algae 'Red Valonia',
http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a166/KIN...48/DSC02077.jpg

it’s a royal PITA, the stems anchored themselves into the rock, plastic /corals ect and when you cut them off with a scalpel you don’t get all the roots {stem} so they just grow back, and to make things worse if you accidently bust one of the bladders then you end up with twice as many arrrrrrrr.!!!!!! .
In an attempt to eradicate the problem I threw away the worst effected pieces of rock and really dug out the rest of the little buggers from the rock with a scalpel. I then cut them off the korila nano then I put it in a red hot pan of boiling water for 10 minutes. Thought that’s got to kill it, put the korila nano back in the tank minus the bubble algae, and 1 week later it was back this thing takes some killing off its really starting to peee me off now so far it has killed 85% off my gsp as well so erm yer as you can see I am having a really hard time with this stuff. If anyone can offer me any advice I would really appreciate it thanks again john,o

Amazing John. What a difference now the algal issue has disappeared.
Stunning little tank now.

Thanks,
yer the tank was looking good before I changed my job within the company I work for and to say they were so far behind with the maintenance would be an understatement. So I have been working 12hr a day to get caught up and going on training courses for 1 & 2 weeks at a time. so to be honest the tank has been neglected for the past few months. I have been making water mixes up and my partner has been doing the water changes on weekly bases for me. But that’s about all the attention the tank has been getting unfortunately.
But now we have got caught up with maitence at work and put a proper maitence schedule in place. I have had more time over the last 2 weeks to get stuck into the tank and nurse it back to health. My main problem at the moment is the bubble algae 'Red Valonia' outbreak Unfortunately It has killed 90% of my GSP {I managed to save a small frag of it} so hopefully that will grow back quickly. And as for the bubble algae I removed all that I could see last week and have been removing it daily as it re grows. The water parameters are still very good so yer just got to get on top of this which I hope I can achieve over the next few weeks or so.
In the mean time here is some pics of my new coral :good:

Wow yeah that's a good price! Probably 1/2 to 1/4th of what you should have paid :)
