jird attack!!

i;ve got a trio of shaws jirds that are starting to get on a bit now (just over 3 years old), theyre nowhere near as agile as they used to be, and i think that their eyesight is starting to go now too - last night i was putting a tray of sand in for them to sandbathe in, and one of them didnt appear to see my hand until it was about 3" away, as it caught him by surprise the little bugger sunk his teeth into the end of my finger and bit as hard as he could! unfortunately i had a fishtank behind my elbow and so couldnt get my hand away fast enough!! First time theyve bitten me, and hopefully the last, it really hurt!!

out of interest does (or has) anyone else on here kept shaws, and if so how long did they live for?

Ive been bitten by their cousin a pet gerbil in the past and that was pretty painful so i can sympathise I'm not 100% sure how long they live to be quite honest i did think it was around the 5 year mark
