Not sure what section to put this in, but I have a question about Jewel Tanks. We have what I think is a Rekon 60, and like all the Jewel tanks I've seen, it has the filter and heater contained in a black plastic compartment in the far right hand corner. This is great, apart from the fact that it has no lid to speak of, and our harlequins keep jumping over into the tiny section containing the filter pump and heater; they're curious little guys. I guess just some sort of cover would help, but it would be very close to the light and whatever is used would probably get quite hot. Has anyone else had this problem with these tanks? Any ideas or suggestions would be appreciated.

Yep - well known problem with Juwel Tanks & the filter. Stupid design.

My solution - remove filter :good:

Might not be what you are looking to do though. But I'm sure some other's have a more practical solution.

my juwell aquarium, rekord 96 comes with a little lid over the filter box

pair of tights and a rubber band could be used to make a net over the top?

thats what i did when my 5 clowns and 6" red tail black shark managed to find themselves inside it.

eventually went with bloo tho and replaced the whole thing.

yes but what if the fish still try and jump in there and find them selves stuck on the tights and die? :/

.....well thats why its best to replace it altogether.

and fish dont tend to jus lay there when they have jumped out. they flip about like mad so they would soon be bak in the water im sure.

EDIT - ok mr picky :p (only messin).

you could use 2 clothes pegs (from the washing line) stuck on one side sticking up and then put the tights over. would make it slanted then so they would jus fall rite bak in the water.

Interesting Suggestions guys, thanks. I don't really want to replace the filter so I'll have to try someting else. I like the clothes peg and tights idea; maybe I could train the fish to perfom some kind of vertical trampoline routine against it, especially spectacular if the lighting tube sets the tights on fire.

yup unless you want to replace the filter I can't think of anything better than the tights idea.

Never had this problem, but I've heard of it before...

Just stick some plastic (well cleaned pop bottles cut to size) around the edge of the filter housing (high enough to reach the 'roof') with some aquarium-safe silicon. No problem.

Make sure that you're not over filling the tank. There should be a sticker on the inside of the tank showing the maximum fill level.

Good luck with your high-jumping aquanauts!

i have the Juwel Rekord 80, which uses the same compact super filter as the rekord 60, i had the same problem with my leopard danios playing in the flow of water and getting over excited and jumping in. i solved the problem by cutting up a lid from a plastic container from our local take away, cut a hole so that i could still change the temperature of the heater if i wanted, and cut a hole in the edge for the wire of the pump.
I hav since had no problems at all with my danios.
Hope that helps
