Jelly Bean

This topic has been beaten to death over the last year..

Everyone has their own opinion on what a jellybean parrot is.

Why do we have to argue about it constantly everytime it is brought up?

Everyone calls jellybean parrots different things.. that's what common names will get ya.

Anyways, I wouldn't keep a pair of jellybeans in a 10g tank, even if it is only temporarily for breeding.
20 long would probably be the smallest I would try it in.

i currently have a breeding pair in a ten gallon tank with babies!!!!! XD
every time i get near the tank the make trys to bite me lol.
i've had them for about 2 years now and havent seen any growth in them.
when the frys get a little bigger or when the parent wont care for they frys anymore then i'll move the parents back into my 55 gallon tank hehehe
my biggest male jellybean is 2 inchs long.
kinda looks like a silver dollar coin.

Jellybeans are a cross between a blood parrot and a convict. They are usually smaller than blood parrots. They are fertile compared to blood parrots which are usually sterile. Jellybeans are also a dyed fish so they come in candy-like colors. The dying of fish is very inhumane and tortuous so I wouldn't recommend buying a dyed fish.

Also JB\\\'s natural color is white/pale pink and BP\\\'s natural color is red/orange/yellow... if the color seems to good to be true (like blue/green/purple) then it is, they are dyed...

When I bought my two parrots they were labled as Jellybeans. I did my resurch also and because they were both orange or peachy color I decided that they were probubly not dyed. I feel that they were miss-labled because they have only gotten brighter in color, where dyed fish will usually fade with time. What I am saying is, don't assume that just because they are labled as jellybeans doesn't mean that they were harmed or are dyed.

Tell you what, you breed a male pink con with a female blood parrot and document the whole thing taking pictures along the way.Only then will you have real proof and I will take your post seriously.

Do you want to know why they haven't grown?

You have stunted them.

Jellybeans do not belong in 10g tanks.. period

I don't know why we're spreading misinformation.. It's ridiculous.

I have Jellybean parrots in my tank! I am not getting into the arguement about where or what they came from. I had a few fry in a 20g. They all grew up and the largest i could get one to grow was a male who grew to 4inches. That was as large as i could get them. Even with shipping the others out to my parents tanks.

The fish are great. If you are breeding them in a 10g i would move the young quickly to another tank (bigger) to grow them on. I would also watch you don't get over run with having two many clutches(??) of fry!! The things just keep breeding. Plus LFS will not take them due to not a lot of people wanting them due to pale colour!!

Goodluck anyway
