Since my mom made me give up fish keeping, I have all these fish supplies left over. One of my friends has a JD cichlid. I have an air stone and air pump, and I was thinking of giving them to her. She doesn't have one in her tank, just the filter and heater. So, do JD's prefer fast flowing water with a bubbler/air stone, or just a plain filter and still water?

Thanks. :)

don't think it matters either way. I don't run airstones in any of my tanks as is, there are plenty of less tacky ways to get some aeration and water movement in the tank.

My jds are fine with just the flow from the filter. So fine in fact that they spawn on a regular. I don't think they would mind an airstone though.

My Jacks are fine with a Arne, but it's for decoration not necessary. They were fine without it.

I would love to know how long your Jack fry live with the parents and if you ever remove them. My jacks keep spawning, and I have separated em twice, but i won't buy another aquarium... So next spawn will probably have to stay in the tank.

I leeave them with the parents for about 8-10 weeks then grow them out for another month in their own tank. Right after I move the babies out, the jacks get down and dirty again, and the cycle rolls on lol.
