Hey,

I'm currently setting up a coldwater aquarium for a fancy. It has been cycling for a week now and I think it's time to attatch some java to the rocks.

I've already cottoned the moss onto a couple of the rocks, but have never used java fern before, so was wondering if anyone had any experienced tips when attatching the stuff.

I am attatching it to these rocks...

Any advice will be gratefully appreciated, thanks.

attatch it with wire/thread and the ferns clingy roots will strap its self on in a few weeks

Hi

As Qays says use fine thread, fine fishining line is good, to tie the thick stem on to the rocks.

The Java Fern will then gradualy clamp on with its root system.

Any new shoots will come from the top of leaves. These can be removed and again can be tied down.

As you probably know Java Fern doesn't root like most plants and gets its nutrients from the water.

Lots of luck with the tank.

Hi,

I recomend you use cotton(not polyester) sewing thread. The cotton thread will rot after about a month; by this time the fern will have rooted to the rock/wood. An alternative is to use plastic wire tie wraps; the kind that you find wrapping electrical appliance cables. After a month just snip off the wire; a lot easier and quicker than wrapping and tying thread. You can also buy this at garden centres and hardware stores for a few quid for 30 meters.

Kind regards,

Andy

Hey..

Thanks for the advice. I've gone for the cotton thread as it was to hand...
