Java Fern Light

I have a marina 5 gallon hood on my tank, that comes with an incandesant bulb. I want to grow java fern for the first time and I was wondering if it will be okay. I really don't want to buy new light unless I absolutely have to. Thanks for all your help!

Java fern isn't that picky when it comes to light. Make sure its not grown in substrate

Mine grows no matter how I keep it, just grows slower with less light.

You could try to fit one of those twisty fluorescent tubes into your hood. It gives you far better light but some hoods are a bit tight to easily fit one into them.

Thanks everyone I'll think about. Probably keep the the light for now but deffinetly think about getting better light later!

Java fern is pretty hardy, so as long as it's not planted in the substrate I imagine it should do just fine. It might grow quicker under high lighting but should grow under pretty much any light.
