About 8-9 months ago I got a Jaguar Cichlid from my local aquaruim store. I had been trying to get one for ages before hand but the dealer said they were never on his suppliers list. Finally I got one. It was roughly an inch and a half long when I got it. Now it has grown to roughly 4-5 inches.

It is really shy and only realy leaves its hides when the lights are off so I was looking online to see if this was normal for a Jag. I came across a forum where someone had what they thought was a Jag but now suspected it is a Wolf. I was not even aware that there was a Wolf Cichlid so I googled it and my heart sank. The pics I saw such as the one below were so similar to my fish.

Please can anyone look at the pics of my fish below (poor quality I know) and confirm my fears.

Thats a Wolf isn't it?

Oh well I guess that is pretty conclusive.

Thanks Guys.

Mine is nowhere near as colourfull as that. I have looked as JDs since it was suggested., Some of them look theb spit of mine and others look nothing like it.

JDs so vary in the amounts of blue they have alot. Im positive its a JD and quite a nice one.

Without a doubt a JD if its duller in colour than pics you have seen it could be a female. But yes as said 100% JD

Certainy a JD. It almost certainly confirms this also if you say its quite recusive and hides quite a bit. Jacks are rather timid, especially if they are on their own and havnt got dithers to make them feel safe.

I can't quite tell from the pictures but it looks as though you have a female.

RESULT ....... you won't need to go out and buy a monstrous tank to house a dovii (wolf cichlid) in now !!
