I just got a pair of Jade Eye Cichlids yesterday, I really like Cichlids, but cos I have a community tank, can't really get that many. Imagine how pleased I was when the guy in my LFS told me they should get on fine with my other fish (until they breed that is!!) They're lovely fish, and at the moment the male is slightly larger than the biggest of my 8 Tiger Barbs.
Anyway, have a look and tell me what you think.
(Apologies if the pictures are a bit big, I just got a new camera today, and I'm still figuring it out!!!)

Heres the Female:

Last one of the male, flash didn't go so well on this one:

And last but not least, I had to add this one of one of my clown loaches looking very cute peering out from behind his rock!!!!!:

Anyway, Hope you like them. I think they're great fish. Can't wait till they breed (if they do that is!!)

They are great fish!! I thought about buying them, but then went with convicts.
They call them Blauwoogje around here, which means: little blue eye

I had to add these 2 pictures of my Jade Eyes, they've been in the tank for just under a week now, and they've already turned out to be camera hoggers!!!
These are both of the male. I love the first picture!!!! :D

yeppers, definitely sajica. Nice fish! A lot of fun to keep.

If you haven't seen it already, check out the pic of the jumbo male on Rapps' site, www.tangledupincichlids.com, it's a hoss for a "small" cichlid.

modernhamlet, thanks for the FOTM!! I think this is m favourite picture I've taken of any of my fish!! I was really pleased to see it come out like that!!

BlueIce They are only juveniles at the moment, the male is about 3 1/2" long, and is now starting to develop black stripes like the pictures in the Jade Eye profile. I'm not disagreeing, I just wondered whether they develop those colourings as they mature. I do agree though, at the moment, my fish looks exactly like yours!!! Thanks for pointing it out. I'll let my LFS know as well!!!!

They both have the T and the sajica coloring...Jade eyes do not. There is no mistaking what they are. If you still have doubts send pics to Jeff Rapps...He has id'd several fish for me.

They did have yours sexed correctly however...suprising since they didn't know what they actually had.

Thanks for the FOTM Mesome

BlueIce, thanks again. I wasn't questioning, I was just wondering if they developed colours as they matured. I'd rather know what they truly were, so thanks for noticing!!! I'll let the shop know!! Shame I can't change the name of the thread!!!!!! :D

SConrad, you can see my full tank here

:D Thats excellent. Mine still shy away when I go near the tank at the moment. My tiger barbs are a different matter though, as soon as my hand goes in the tank to move something or replant something, they are swarming round my arm and nipping me!!!
Good fun to have fish eat from your hand like that though, can't wait to see if mine become like yours, they're fast becoming my favourites!!!
