Is it possible to keep a pair of JDs with a biggish shoal of cories? Just hypothetically, want to know if they would eat them or just leave them alone as they are mainly bottom ditherers.

I would say yes although I only have 1 and not a pair. Lots of wood, slate is advised for hiding spots

Thanks balajake. I would like a pair though and my worry is that they would get too aggressive when breeding. Other option would be Jewels. Any thoughts on them?

IMO Jewels are more aggressive :p

I can't see why keeping a group of cories would be an issue with Jacks. Like all cichlids it depends on the individual personalites of each fish. For example i kept my male Jack with tiny oto's and japonica shrimp and he never once bothered them, not untill i introduced my female Jack, and she tought him to nibble on them. Then on the other hand i had two cast of female Jacks who lived happily with those same shrimp when they were recued from the main tank. Luck of the draw, with cories they are a little more robust and harder to munch on, so in theory its ok. They live together in the wild, without interfering with each others food chain.

Thanks Verminator. Well the plan is to add the JDs while juvenile someone I know has five small ones left. They would then A grow up with the cories and B hopefully a pair will form and I will rehome the remaining ones. Or I could just keep two females as my main fish.

Gosh, this all started because I bought the most beautiful piece of wood today and now I want to set up another tank just because of that wood  Addicted much???

So what tank are these going in then?

Well, a new one  Cross post see above why. It's just wood, but it's BEAUTIFUL!!!

David, don't post that on the open forum.......else i may get lost and venture there!

Single Jewels are quite calm really. Put a mate in & it's clobbering time for anything else if they get it on. lovely fish though.

EBs???

Ok, so if I got the five juveniles, I can either see if two pair up and seem peaceful enough or just keep one and rehome the rest? I've seen the parents of the juveniles, they are stunning. And then loads of cories :hyper: And not to forget my beautiful wood

If I decide to have mine, I'm getting the five babies for £2 :good:

Still trying to work out things, might make it a pretty biotope, but don't know if I can do it with SA and CA fish.

Nah, I love the pinky / greenish colouring. So many choices at the moment, don't know what to do. And all because of one piece of wood
