I've been thinking about it for awhile, whether I should concentrate on breeding bettas or rescuing bettas in poor condition. I only have enough room to do one or the other. And I decided that instead of breeding and contributing to the tons of homeless bettas out there that I'd rather rescue and rehabilitate sick, unwanted and unloved bettas. I made breed one or 2 spawns in the future but now its the needy bettas that have my heart! Here are pics and rundowns of all of my current rescues.

This is Oliver, he was rescued from petsmart, he was so pale he looked yellow with white fin, part of his tail was missing and he wasn't moving.

This is him 2 weeks later, see how much his tail has started to grow back already, and hes a bubblenest maniac!!

This is Luna, she was rescued from a shelf of dead bettas at a local wal*mart, she was the only one still alive and was swimming in her own filth in about 2 inches of water.

This is Austin, he was at my Local LFS for over 2 weeks!! Everytime I went in there I hoped that someone had bought him, but he was always there. the edges of his fins are all ripped and he just layed at the bottom of his bowl. Now hes quite happy, and enjoys flaring at the camera then swimming away when I try and take his picture.

Here are Rascal and Shiloh, both pet smart rescues. Rascal was pretty healthy when I got him, shiloh on the other hand had a horrible case of swim bladder, but after some peas and a week or so of no food, hes made an amazing recovery.

And this is Orion, hes quite a character. I got him today from the local LFS. he was like buried under this huge shipment of bettas where he never would have been seen. fortunatly I have this thing where I HAVE to see every single betta, lol. His top fins are a bit curled, and his tails a bit ragged, he seemed very uninterested in anything when I first brought him home, but now hes picked up Austins habit of flaring at the camera! lol

Congrats of your rescue/rehab decision. Even though they do need some help, your new bettas look gorgeous... nice collection!

Wonderful decision and wonderful bettas! Oliver is absolutely stunning!!
I have 8 bettas, but only 2 were bought as rescues. Sebastian is a gorgeous MG VT, and he was at the LFS for over two months! I couldn't believe no one had picked him after all that time, and I was even more shocked that he was still alive. My other rescue, a CT, was in horrible condition when I got him. He was very, very young and had really bad fin rot. On top of that, he was pigeon-eyed, had deformed caudil fin rays, a crooked back, and was white from stress. For a while I thought he had fish TB, but he is doing fabulous. He colored up, going from near white to a dark blue/red (so dark he looks black), all his fins grew back, he got bigger, and his health improved so much it's not even funny. I have had him for about 5 months, and he is doing great!
The feeling of seeing a rescued betta improve and thrive is one of the best feelings a person could ever have

well done for rescuing them. I hope I dont have to do any rescues getting very short of space! lovely fishes

well done, you've rescued some real beauties!
did you pay or did you kick up a fuss when you got them?
i'd demand the tatty ones free!!

if only i had the space...my housemate would start to think i'm even more nuts!
(she thinks 4 tanks are bad enough....)
