Heh.

So I ordered some wood off the internet on the 11th, priority shipping from Florida, and it arrived on the 14th. It was $20 for 5 pieces ranging from 5-7 inches. But I'd say I got pieces that were more like 7-9 inches in size! They're pretty dense/heavy!

Oh, it was from floridadriftwood.com and here's a photo. I can take closeups of specific pieces with a measuring tape next to them if requested.

Should I treat this in any special way before putting it in my tank?

Man I read this post and I was like "woah".... I have my mind in the gutter..but hey! Nice buy, driftwood looks great in planted aqauriums.

:hey:  ^_^

I'm sure almost every fish keeper has had wood in their bath tub at one point

great buy for that much.

your floor looks the same as my front rooms floor!!

i don't bother soaking wood anymore just chuck it in with plenty of carbon in the filter. safes alot of time for something that isn't going to solve the problem completely

Hehehehehe.
Well, I threw it all into a bucket and put the bucket in the bathtub, saves on water. Should've thought of that before! It's been soaking for about 24 horus, then I boiled it for about a half hour, and it's soaking again now for about another 12 hours. I think I may boil it again tomorrow and then play with it in the tank. Hehe. Gonna play with my wood. ;)

Oh! And the floor is very common, it's that stuff called pergot that you DIY yourself like a jigsaw... :)

I tried the whole soaking thing for months with some smaller pieces of wood and they still tanned my tank water. I just took my big piece and stuck it in and let it tan my water. My fish seem to like it that way anyhow.

Well some kinds of fish like tanned water. Like the fish in the black water bionome.

My loaches (Khulis and Clowns) definitely do and my RTBS and Gourami don't seem to mind the darker water. I'm thinking of getting more wood for my cories too. So far I haven't found any fish that dislike tanned water actually. :D

Well tomorrow or Monday I plan to go the lake in search of some drift wood. The water level is really down and it's a good time to go looking. I'll post some pictures of what I find :)

I tried looking at one of the local ponds here too but sadly it was too deep and murky to even attempt hunting for wood. Luckily my LFS gets wood fairly cheap and I know the owner and he goes diving for it often, hence being cheaper.
