my kribs have had babies, im so happy ,im a grandma!!!!
BUT !! they are getting eaten
can i move them to a smaller tank on there own or with parents
how to move them (they will go though my net)
can i suck them up with some tube in to the new tank that will have the water from the main tank in it.
what do i feed them.
i only have about 15 babies left so i need to hurry ,please help!!!
:dunno: :dunno: :dunno: :dunno: :dunno:

you can syphon them out with a small hose
you could also try a brine shrimp net, they have a very fine mesh and they are sold pretty much everywhere

You could try using a tea strainer or a tablespoon (if you are concerned about freaking them out)

congrats on the babies!!!

i have this problem too. the fish are fine for a week then the male starts to eat them. i save what i can by using a fine mesh net and put them in my fry tank, which is filtered by an air driven sponge and a heater at the same temperature as my main tank. i feed them defrosted bbs and the tetramin baby food. this time i have saved 5 and are now three weeks old. my last little bunch i had, i have got 3 and they are nearly 4 months old, so it can be done. the babies will need some cover to hide in but after a day or two will get busy exploring the tank. good luck :)

they are probebly being eaten by the clown loaches and flying fox. Just take those out of the tank untill the fry are all grown up, or you could set up a 20g long with a school of blackskirt tetras so that the kribs will be able to have the fry in there safely.

Id put the fry in a seperate tank, without the parents. Never know if the parents get hungry enough and decide to lessen their family.

have you ever breed kribs before or any cichlids for that matter? I doubt it. That is terrible information to give out. here are some reasons
1. The fry will die without their parents. They need them to teach them how to do stuff.
2. The parents will fight with out having any kids so to say. They will be looking for them and then blame eachother for them not having them and will fight.

DO NOT seperate the parents and the fry. The parents will not eat them if they get hungery. That is just BS.

Actually yes I have. And yes the parents did get hungry. There is absolutely 100% no reason for you to answer so harshly. I didnt write what that person should do, I wrote what I would do from my personal experience. Is this how you welcome all new people to these forums?

Seems I'm not the only one with personal experience of the parent eating the fry.

cichlids usually need a few tries before being good parents.

I've never bred them myself but i've read very often that the first few time they have babies, the parents will end up eating them because they don't really know what else to do with them. They eventually catch up and protect and raise them though

:grr: Hi not to sound rude or anything but how do you think fish supplyers supply so many they remove the fry or eggs from parents and hatch or raise them seperatly most animals except humans come with survival instincts though leaving them with parent strengthens these instincts it is not nessary so if you are wanting to raise as many as you can so you can sell them or just get real good experence in fry rearing seperate them or don't and get to experence the parenting behavior first hand  Curtis PS my spelling sucks and I have bad typing skills
