I bought 3 bronze corys a few weeks ago. 2 of em have grown great and are the same size as the peppered corys. 1 of the bronze ones is still small tho and doesn't seem to have grown at all. It just sits there on the sand and moves to another spot once a while. He has no barbs and his (or her) tail is split I the middle. It seems to be breathing fine but its rare I see it eat although I feed em shortly before turning the light out so it might have a feast, but I'm guessing not.

I treated the tank for white spot a while ago which seems to have worked, all water tests are ok and I did my weekly 50% water change this afternoon. Is there anything else I can do?

Ok try putting salt in the tank . not table salt .. go to ur fish store and get fish salt.
follow instuctions.

also theres a product to help growth. like steriods for fish

Also bring your temp up to about 29c ick cant survive at that temp leave it there for about 2-3 weeks

Salt & corys are a bad mix. Very few freshwater tropicals require salt. No barbs & a splt tail may indicate the beginnings of a bacterial issue, increased temps are the opposite of what you want for a bacterial issue. Any steroids are a definite bad idea.

It may be a slower grower, being out competed for food, the sand may be abrading the barbs. I would put the fish in a separate bare bottom tank, with a little melafix, and daily 50% water changes. The bare bottom is non-abrasive, melafix as well as water changes helps heal fin & other body injuries. Being separated lets you see how much or little the fish is eating.

Forget the ich treatments. Slow growth is not an ich problem. As Tolak said, it may be best to move the fish to a spot where it does not need to compete for food and treat for the injuries. If its barbels are injured or even missing, it could be having a hard time feeding even if it was otherwise healthy.

Hi mic8310 :)

In any batch of corys, some will grow faster than others. If it's a male, it could also be smaller than the others if they are females. Have patience with this and give him more time.

As far as the missing barbels go, your fish has a big problem. This condition could have been caused either by a bacterial infection or by keeping it in a tank with rough or sharp substrate. This kind of surface could literally wear them off.

Being in a tank that is being treated for ich is hard on corys and it's not unusual for them to develop bacterial infections afterward. Be sure the medicine is all removed and the bottom has been cleaned. As others mentioned, putting him in a quarantine tank is a good idea. Keep the temperature at 75 F. or lower make him comfortable and make sure the water is well aerated to slow the growth of bacteria. Many times clean, fresh water will work wonders.
