I've got a starter unit rated for 30watt of flourecent light. My flu tube is only rated 25 watts, however the starter unit (and I dont mean the canister that initial kicks the light into action) gets rather warm.... well hot.

The only answer I have is the starter unit is sitting in the cabinett under the tank. However there is plenty of air space also a 4" hole in the back near the top to let all the air pipes and power in.

Are these things ok running hot?

I still wouldn't know the answer, but I think it depends on the kind of HW you have. That info would be helpful to add. Checking out the manufactures homepage would benifit you as well.

I was given this light and the starter has no labels on it. Ho hum, While visiting my parents I found my dad's light starter unit is also warm so I'll do my best to ignore it
