I was just eating my lunch (seafood salad) when I looked over at my little office betta, who appeared to be trying to wave at me and yelling "Give me some!".

I thought what the heck. I googled first to make sure I wasn't going to poison him, and tentatively offered him some crab meat. HOLY!!! He went nuts!

I became scared for the safety of my fingers (he was jumping higher and higher each time to take a bite of the meat) so I tore of wee little bits and dropped them in for him. He is now swimming like a mad man around his tank looking for more, I think.

Do you think this was okay to give him? Like I said, I couldn't find anything saying not to...

LOL, the cheeky little beggar is at the corner of his tank giving me the staredown as I type this....

wow ur betta is obbsesed
im not very sure but i dont think they eat that kind of meat
check how is doing for a couple of days

that's VERY cute! I really have no idea if it's bad for him or not. I think it's a general rule not to do it frequently (goes for any people food) but that's a given. I tried to google it for you and looked on several pages only to find nothing!

Anyway, it's adorable regardless, he probably won't eat pellets or flakes for 2 weeks now! Holdin' off for the good stuff!

I think that would be fine for an occasional treat as long as there wasn't any dressing or seasonings on it that could irritate his little tummy. Also, you wouldn't want to feed it to him if there were any mayo or oils in it. I've read lots of stuff stating that it's okay to feed fish frozen or canned crabmeat and the like as long as it's not in oil. I think your betta will be fine...Just don't succomb to his begging all the time or you'll have a little fatty.

I fed my betta a live earthworm once and he went nuts. He swam frantically around the tank looking for more too...silly little thing....

:fish:

It should be fine, I'm assuming it's imitation crab, right? That's usually just fish.

Yep, Wuv, just the imitation stuff. I googled before I did it and couldn't find anything, but it's always after the fact that you go "crap, I know I didn't find anything bad, he'll probably be okay, will he? I'm sure he will, but what if he won't?".

Thanks for your replies so far everyone. He is really quite funny right now still, he's being Mr. I'mzoomingaroundmytankLookAtMeI'mSoFast right now, which he normally does when he's happy.
