Wow.

Seriously, just wow.

I recently dosed my 29 gallon with an algae killer (I tried everything I could before resorting to this. Green water is REALLY hard to get rid of. :/ ) and as expected, it worked within a few hours. I'm guessing that with the competition gone, my plants (amazon sword, anacharis/elodea/waterweed, banana plant and some type of crypt) were able to grow very well. VERY WELL.

The amazons became much greener, same with the anacharis, and my crypt is doing what I'm guessing is reproducing (growing leaves from it's leaves, along with rools attached to them), but the banana plant. The banana plant has been growing about an inch a day for the past few days. The stems it's leaves are attached to got MUCH longer, and it's root's are poking out all over the place.

Is this normal, or is my plant just a freak? XD

That sounds GREAT. What did you use?

I have/had loads of that hairy algae, we just decided to pull them all and start again. I would like to get some algae killer though in the cupboard just in case it comes back again, and I'm sure it will.

I had a huge hair algae problem. I was on the verge of just taking the whole tank down and bleaching everything, then I tried the simplest thing. I did a 2 day blackout. On the third day, not one strand of hair algae was to be seen. Still clean to this day with 3 SAEs.
