I need to rant at somebody , I said my husband could have a tank in the front room a few weeks ago . He went out that night and bought a brand new tank at well over the odds ( as we now know ! ) Since its me who is testing the water , feeding the fish and doing the water changes . I now want my own tank and a bigger one ( 4 foot ) My local fish store has a four foot tank , filter , hood , light and gravel etc half price from £115 down to £56.99 for the lot ! I told him about it and said i wanted it and now he says we don't need a second tank and i can't have it ! I'm devastated ! any ideas on persuading him ?eg benefits of having a 4 foot tank as well as a 2 foot tank .

Use your womanly charm, were good at it getting are own way.

(1) the larger the tank, the easier it is to maintain.
(2) a 4ft tank is a lot more impressive
(3) all the contents of the 2ft tank can obviously go into the 4ft tank!
(4) you can keep a much, much wider variety of fish (point out clown loaches)

thats bull, your are a grown women, not a child, and he really has no right to tell you cant cant buy a tank with your own money. especially if you work for it. Especially scence youa re the one doing everything for his. Does he let you get any fish for the tank? If not, then definetly go buy it!

i forgot:

a 4ft tank is more stable and less likely to get knocked over than a 2ft. (this may or may not be true, but doesn't it sound good?)

personally, i'd focus on getting him to let you upgrade the 2ft instead of just adding a tank. once you've got the 4ft, it'd be a lot easier to talk him into keeping the 2ft. ;)

just tell him straight, he wanted fish, now you are looking after them, if you want a bigger tank get it! :D

lol...I'd also tell you to use your charm. Women can get away with a lot more than you think. Just going out to buy is not a bad idea either. You're married to him...you're not his kid.

say that the fish need a bigger space and say that you will make it look pretty for your home and impres him by caring for his tank and you might persuade him you never know lol good luck

:D You are both adults, and presumably in an equal relationship right? Well, it doesn't sound like it but approach it from that pov, tell him that it's a great deal and you are taking it up. Putting in a bigger tank will bring more happiness/fulfillment and peacefulness into your life, and you'll be maintaining it so you are going to do it anyway. The side benefits will clearly rub off on him, but phrase it in a way that will get to him. Also let him know that if you can have this, then isn't there that such and such he's been wanting or he got last week/month? It's only fair that you get things you want too, as youre a person with needs.

Good Luck!
