hes not going to be cleaning the filter at the same time though...the filter doesnt have anything to do with this i dont think...unless im wrong

Took the plastic rocks out today and cleaned. Couldnt believe how much rubbish was flying round in the tank as I moved the rocks out and back into place (I netted as much as I could). It was all algae on the rocks. My gravel needs an urgent vacuum. Il leave it a few days do the gravel, few more days again then il do the plastic plants? That sound alright?

Matt

Dirty tank, naughty tank in your bed!

lol nah u should only have to clean the plants again if it grows back...but sure u can clean them again just to be sure...and i knew it was algae...ive had that problem before...algae is very natural and can make a tank look nice...just not on the glass...but black algae is ugly...how much gravel is in your tank...that could be the problem for the dirty gravel...

Hard to say that one! I guess its 2-3 cms deep off the bottom of the tank! Cant remember how big the bags were and how many. I did give the gravel a massive wash before it first went into the tank!

if u have live plants u will need 3 to 4 inches of gravel...if u dont about 2 or 3...3 being better...your gravel hosts bacteria which brake down all the food, poop, and maybe dead fish lying around lol...so if u dont have enough the effect doesnt work which makes the gravel a complete mess...how old is your tank...if its over 2 months old or so...u shouldnt have that much crude...after u clean the gravel...on the next gravel cleaning if its that bad again...i suggest more gravel...hope that helps

Ive got plastic plants and the tank has been running over 4months now, I never knew about how much gravel to put in (didnt think it made a difference) You learn something new every day! Il clean the gravel and see what happens. 3inches of gravel for a 29 gallon tank!?! not doubting you but that does seem alot!?! thank you for your help phoenix fire!!!!!!!!!!

also sloping the gravel upwars slightly to the back makes the aquarium appear bigger...lol just little tips...and no problem...anytime...if u ever have anymore questions just pm me...have a great holiday (if it applies to you) no offense i just have no idea where staffordshire is....see ya
