Hi everyone.. I just got my first ever fishy today.. its a betta!

Its in a 1 gallon tank .. in which I put 5 drops of stress coat (like the bottle said to do)... after about 10 minutes, I put my little friend in.. and he seemed great...

Now I've been doing a lot of reading on bettas, and I keep hearing something about it darting around and making really super fast movements... as a bad thing.. Well I am worried because its doing that.. I'm really scared. I dont know if I'm just being overly paranoid or what! Also, whenever it does the fast movements, there is a almost clear little string of poopy (I assume) floating away from him.. (no it is NOT attached to him)... seems like he's darting around trying to squeeze this stuff out..

oh my gosh I am going insane. please tell me its ok! :/

Hmm.. I doubt the poop is related if it's not attached. However, I'd say give him a few days to settle in. I got a betta who did the same thing, and since my first betta wasn't like that, I was definitely worried too! However, everyone was great on this board and told me to calm down, so I did - and now he's fine. I'm sure your guy will be the same way. He's probably just getting used to his new home, new water, and you! :)

I don't know much about bettas in particular, but it seems like as long as he isn't rubbing up against anything you're in good shape.

he could be just really really glad to be out of the horrid little cup house! lol

I too have had a few betta guys do this & it all worked out okay, they calmed down after a few days.

Good Luck with him

Maybe he is constipated??? Just kidding. Maybe he is stressed out. Is there a lot of movement by is tank? Or does it get bumped? That could do it. What are the water levels? Or maybe he is just scared in his new tank. Is there something for him to hide in?
