Maxwell and Makosi took advantage of the low pressure overnight and the rain today and spawned. It only took them 17 hours from being introduced in the spawning tank to achieve it too.

Maxwell was a perfect gentleman and hardly touched her at all, when she went to hide in the plants he waited patiently next to her till she came out again. He built an impressive nest and they spawned for four and a half hours. Took Makosi out and gave her a nice bloodworm meal and Maxwell got to work re-arranging his eggs and picking up any left on the tank floor.

Strange thing is, he's piled them all up in a high mound at the mouth of the cup. Looks like quite a few, anyone fancy counting them

Congrats, Joby  What a tight, neat little nest he has, what a good boy

Congratulations! That is a pretty small nest, but at least it looks well-maintained. :)

aw, Maxwell is such a sweet boy!! his nest looks great, too. Sounds like he'll be an awesome Daddy! I cant wait to see the itty baby fry!

I counted 137 -_-

listen to daddy...........   never fails and i was right.....nice one

I don't think you can tell from the picture but that nest is almost pure eggs, hardly any bubbles and he's got it stacked up around a cm high! so I reckon there was quite a few in there. This morning however its thinned out somewhat and he's got a big belly so I reckon he's doing some maintenance and getting out the unfertilized ones. I still reckon I've got at least 100 in there and I have seen a couple with eyes in :hyper:

Mr Platy if there are that many then you can guarantee some will be winging their way to you :D

He was a good boy Wuv, am very proud of him as Makosi came out almost perfect

Thanks Kiarra, he was constantly moving them around and re-stacking them

I think he will make a good daddy Splashluff as he hasn't left the nest yet

Bettaman, of course you are always right

Kiarra I looked till I went cross-eyed :S and couldn't see any hanging tails but this afternoon I noticed eggs dropping and wiggling on the tank bottom. At around 6pm I saw the first fry

Daddy is being good and picking them up

They are raining down on poor daddy's head LOL!

Lots to hatch yet but nice to see some life in the spawning tank at last!

Well it seems that Maxwell wasn't ready to be a daddy just yet, woke up to find all the fry are gone :-( there were loads darting around last night when I went to bed. Will leave the tank set up for a few days in case any are hiding, but I looked around the whole tank pretty good. Maybe I need more floating plants in future for fry to hide in when daddy gets hungry.

Oh well, back to the drawing board :dunno:

there will be some there somewhere.........im sure....just leave for a week and feed a drop of liquifry if you have any just one that will cause inforsuria to start quicker and will feed any young........

MR OPTOMISTIC..........
