It's a Plec not a Cory

Actually it must be in Avon mustn't it? I amaze myself soemtimes  anyway must finally get round to some revision now, just remembered my A levels are this week. :) night

Hi

well i think you are all gonna love this

I called the shop back today and said i was bringing the plec back and asked if i could bring the swordtail back, she asked why and i explained

She said a plec would take 10+ years to get that big and they rarely do, she said it would probably grow an inch every 2 yrs, i said in the long run anyway i wont be able to get a bigger tank, as we just havent the room.

She said she couldnt take the fish back anyway because the water from my tank would contaminate hers and she would have to quarantine the fish, and wouldnt be able to accept her new delivery on wednesday, i mentioned perhaps she could just net the fish in and not add my water, she then said thats just cruel as they have acclimatised to your tank, and she hopes that isnt what i done with the fish i bought from her (i did but i didnt want to admit that). aaarrrrggghhh

So i'm stuck with em i guess, she said she will get me another swordtail which will stop the aggression, and that i have read to many books, as the stunted thing is nonsense and the plec will be fine, if he gets that big the zoo will take him, she then laughed and told me that they had settled in fine and why mess with a good thing.

I dont know what else to do now

oh god :( she could have floated the bag in the water, slowly added her tank water, and THEN netted it.

You could try asking round allllll the other lfs in your area and explaining that you were cruelly tricked by your one and pleading that they take him :( other than that i don't know.

Great idea,

I just called pets at home and they said they would take it, they said they wouldnt pay me for it, but i'm not that bothered about that. Thing is it'll be sad to see him go, he does such a good job in the tank, ho hum, Thanks again clutterydrawer, and good luck with the a-levels i'm glad i dont have to go through all that again, it was frustrating enough the first time

All the best
Miranda

Wow, I'm glad you found somewhere to take it :) lots of luck finding some nice cories!

the A levels are horrendous, i dropped one but i still have three : / however they'll be done by wednesday and I'll be able to spend all my time thinking about fish again

.....oh wait...i already do. :/

ooh, one more question (i never shut up do i :p ) what have you been feeding the plec? Becuase if you get cories, they will some of the waste from the gravel BUT they would also like some sinking catfish pellets, you can get them at pets at home.

when i bought the cory in disguise  , they gave me algae wafers and said to add one every other day, which i've been doing, although the other fish in my tank are probably getting more of it than the plec, but he seems to feed day and night on the glass and gravel, i'll ask about it when i ring them, i was going to ask them to get in 3 corys then take the plec in when i know they have them.

Cheeky lfs people...they mustve known it was a plec really then, because staple diet for plec = algae wafers whereas the usual food for cories would be sinking pellets...in my experience anyway. that's well sly of them. do you know what kind of cories you're getting?

Your right there, sneaky buggers, wont be going there again

I'm hoping to get 3 of one of the following types

peppered
incolicana
nattereri
osteocarus
schwartz's

havent decided yet they are all great

Ooopps gotta go footies on and i only got warm beer :(

Thanks again

it will take forever for your plec to get 18" and will probably die before then

you'll be fine

ummmmmm, no. My plec is sixteen inches and got there in less than 5 years.

They have a very long lifespan and if they die before they reach their full size it is probably because of stunting or disease.

I am so happy to hear a happy ending to this story! I was so sad when I read that your daughter was scared of the fish poor thing! She will like cories, they are little goof balls and will probably make her laugh quite a bit. I'm sorry that you have to return your plec, what a shame that the store would mislead you like that. Hopefully he will get a home with a big tank where he will thrive.

Keep us posted on the cories! :p

Ok will do, i was getting a little confused then, felt all excited inside that i might actually be able to keep him, ah well at least like you said sorrell he will thrive in a new home with a bigger tank. :)

You could try to get a bristlenose plec, they stay really small and have fun personalities :)

Panda how about mentioning ur going to the fair trade standards the shop advertivised and sold this fish as another they have got to take it back because they are breaking fair trading laws????????????????

EDIT: they have to take it back its there fault
