I'm not sure but if I were you I'd get them from KittyKat in this topic - http://www.fishforums.net/index.php?/topic/383271-live-food-cultures-microworm-banana-worm-walter-worm/ A lot cheaper and they are really good as that's where I got mine from.

That is just the porridge that you grow them in!

can anyone post a link to an inexpensive micro worm culture?

Which country are you in? In the UK, ebay has plenty for buy it now and auction for around £1.50 to £2 including postage.

oh yes, sorry. i did looking to that one and leave a post but the shipping might be alot because i am in the US. i did go under the classified want section and make a thread there too. :good: i will continue to look for more websites that sell them.

Have you looked at ebay? There are some on there (just looked) but it depends on how much you are prepared to pay for them.

Edit - it was the US ebay I looked at!

i have and will look again now! :good:

edit: is this good?

Yes, that's it. You will need a couple of plastic tubs with lids, and I don't know if you have it in the US, but I use instant porridge mix; the stuff you add to hot milk and stir in. But use hot water for microworms not milk, let it cool and add the packet of starter culture like the one on ebay. You get better results if you add a bit of yeast as well but you don't need the yeast, I don't use it and it works OK without. You need 2 tubs because after about a week it starts to smell so you set up a new tub and seed it from the first one. If you get the timing right you'll have a constant supply of worms.
You could get the stuff in the amazon link you posted to grow the microworms on but it is easier to get instant porridge from the supermarket.

i can get some plastic tubs any where in the US. i will order that set or just find the culture. when do you have to stir the culture up? i was reading something about that... and do you stir the worms into the porridge/oatmeal when you do it?

Just mix up the porridge or whatever you choose to grow the worms on, let it cool if you have to use hot water, then pour the starter culture on top and stir it a bit. When you start the next batch, make up the medium again and scrape a bit off the top of the first one and stir it into the new tub. Once the worms are growing well in the second tub, throw away everything in the first tub, mix up some more medium then add worms from batch 2 and so on. This keeps a constant supply of worms available. You'll soon find out how long to wait between setting up batches.

My culture has been going for 3 weeks now so I'll be starting another one soon. Mine only took a day or 2 to establish and get going so just check it everyday. They are good for about 4 weeks max so you want to be starting another one when your first is at 3 weeks just to make sure you have a supply. They do smell a bit but it's nothing too bad. You may want to just dribble some water on top of the culture if it starts drying out but that shouldn't happen too often. Don't use hot water, I was reading up and a lot said not to as the culture doesn't last as long if you do... If you do use Yeast, use luke warm water. If you don't, use cold. This is the advice I can give you from my experience with my culture. It's the first culture I've ever done and it's thriving after I followed the guide I posted for you in your other topic. Oh and I never stir mine, I just leave them to crawl around. With the culture I wouldn't mix it in, just spread it over the top.
I'll try getting a picture at some point but I don't have one right now. I will be starting mine again soon.

i have ordered my culture starter today so i will start it when i get it and i can use the worms for food for my molly and platy fry! ;)
