How do you introduce new tank mates? I was thinking the same thing about either a bichir or a ropefish.

Yes I agree bichirs are fine as long as they are to big to fit in the mouth of the oscar.
I would stick with a polypterus delhezi as they only max out at around 12-14''. Polypterus Senegulatus work as well.
As for catfish, pictus cats, lima shovelnose ( big tank needed), sun cats (big tank needed), fourline pim cats, and so on..

I have a delhezi too. My guy is about 6.5-7.5''. He eats like a pig. My favorite poly of all time followed by ornate. Endlis just don't do it for me. To me they have a fun shaped head and get too big.

I have the perfect tank for Polys, 3ft squared floor space. Not that mine spends a lot of time on the floor He adores my hanging plants.
I like Ornates as well. Ideally I'll probably have three. They are such good fish, keep to themselves. Not like complicated cichlids

Oscars are very intelligent fish. They need toys. And just not plants- the most simple thing will give an OScar joy. My Albino Tiger, Trudy, loves playing with thiose little hanging mirrors you get for beettas- there her fave. Try hanging little things in the tank, switch up the dec, add new plants when your oscar has chowed through, use your imagination, adn your OScar will be happy!

Depends on the size of the tank. Oscars are quite versatile when it comes to tankmates, they aren't so aggressive tank mates are out of the question, yet they are strong enough to stand up to the more aggressive cichlids. Of course tankmates small enough to be eaten shouldn't be considered.

I think I've seen oscars with all common cichlids, from convicts to jaguars, the real limiting factor is the tank size. Though a lot depends on the personality of the individual fish. From your previous posts you said you had a 55G but planned to upgrade, suggested tankmates would depend on what size tank you will upgrade to.

Im plan to upgrade to a 75, and then hopefully a 125 gallon.
