Im not expert, but don't bettas need to reach the surface?

Oh yeah he comes up for air easily so no worries on that. I thought Bettas likes floating plants.

Are the other plants getting any light?

i was going to say the same, bit small that tank for floaters really :\

I'd probably leave a couple in there, maybe shading the anubias, but that's all.

I just went to remove some and my Betta has made a huge bubble nest amoungst them!!! His first ever since being with me. A happy Betta is a bubbly Betta.

My tank is actually by the window so natural light shine in the side all day. Will that help the plants?

you could keep an eye on it, it the plants do start to go brown, best to remove the dying ones as these will produce ammonia. You could just stick, to low light plants like Java ferns/java moss/Anubias's and that way you might get away with keeping the floaters.

I took some out. I wish I had gone for java fern for the back because it also looks better I think. I'm not that keen on the ones I've got. They're growing though so that must be a good sign.
