Hay guys as I'm sure you know I have been posting about how my female and gold gourami have been fighting and the male has been chasing her around. Well I haven't changed water in 2 days and yesterday there was a very slight amount of bubbles in the tank like maybe 50 and they very small like tiny so I got home today and there is triple the amount ogre bubbles and they very small I haven't really seen him build it but could this be a bubble nest in the making or just excess bubbles from there gills that hasn't pope coz the water is so Still? Here's the pic oh and is the male meant to be building it 100% of the time or does he only build it now and again and how long does it Take?

I just saw him build it and expand it and mix it with the plants :) does this mean the female is gravid and they will spawn or will he build the nest whether she is gravid or not?

Sorry josh... I'm not sure if we have a gourami "expert" online right now to help you.  :/  I'm certainly not one.

I've heard that some gourami males will build a bubble nest, with or without the presence of a female.   How are the two getting along?

the male is beating up the female so she sits behind a rock the whole day then she comes out and he chases her. I hear that this is normal spawning behavior?

Sorry i havent replied becore Josh, i dont tend to this forum very often :-(

Looks like a bubble nest to me Josh, especially if he is mixing it with plants now. If conditions are right then he he will feel amorous and build the nest to attract a female, it doesn't necessarily mean that she is in the right frame of mind unfortunately. It may be worth getting another female if you have room in your tank to "spread the love" so to speak.

At least that way the aggression to females will be spread out and not just aimed at one fish.

When I was a kid I got given an old tank by a friend and my dad helped me set it up and stock it. My dwarf gourami built a nest and bred with my female but the tank started leaking and during the frantic tank change the nest got broken and the male died due to stress :-(
