ok this is a strange pair i know, but from all solid facts i have read and seen, it IS possible...
my male Vieja Hartwegi ( very close relative of the red head cichlid V. Synspilum )
and my female bloodparrot. botha re very highly coloured. the blood parrot female is about 2" longer and 2" higher than the male hartwegi and they are both digging a pit in the corner of the tank together,
they were ddoing the sjakey mating dance thing last night, and chasing over fish away!
hopefully they will lay eggs, and the male is deffinetely fertile so the eggs have a very high possibility of being fertile, il let you guys stay informed :D comments would be apreciated!
tuurlijk

Its defo possible, most Vieja's will hybridise with other cichlids including parrots. My v.synspillium x KK parrot fry are getting big and the parents have another load of eggs.

sucess :D
they have laid eggs, and they are continuing to lay as i type this.
the eggs are a tanned brown colour meaning they are fertalised, i hope the parents dont eat them :(

i have some information about the pair that i will only tell when teh eggs hatch, and it could mean soemthing quiet good :p fingers crossed the eggs will be ok and hatch :fish:

the eggs are all still fine and the fish are guarding it very well.
there shifting unholy amounts of gravel to make a pit and keep covering up the entrance to the fire eels lair
