Is this pineconing?

Does this look at all like pineconing? I suspect my betta may have dropsy. If you think he does what antibiotic/medication would you recommend?

He is a little bit bloated too and hangs out on the bottom a lot.
He goes up for air frequently but sinks back down.

He may be constipated, if you’re going to medicate, make sure you check your water parameters so you know it’s not an issue with your water.

Hi! It doesn’t look like pineconing to me. If they have dropsy, all scales would be lifted just like an open pinecone.

Yeah I thought that too, I am thinking he may just have swim bladder disorder since there is only a little bit of bloating and the symptoms seem similar to swim bladder disorder.

I think I am going to boil a frozen pea and give him a tiny piece. I think that helps with constipation.

Yep, that’s what I’d do. After that, you may want to fast him for a day too.

I would use Daphnia its a known mild laxative instead of pea

If you are going to feed a pea, you could add a grain or 2 of Epsom salt to it. Mash it together. Epsom salt works as a laxative also.

You could do an Epsom Salt bath. It helps with constipation too.

Okay thanks! I have daphnia and I might try the epsom salt on the peas too.
