Hey,
I was just doing a little "gardening" in my tank when I heard a clicking noise and before I knew it my Clown loach (6") shot across the length of my 4ft tank with a splash left the water an hit my arm! I had no Idea they could swim so fast they always seem to 'potter' about.

It scared the crap out of me (I might have actually screamed- don't tell anyone) it was just a shock, from what I can tell he wasn't hurt and he fell straight back in.

Do they do this normally? don't they have little spikes on their noses? could he have been trying to spike me? and would it of hurt if he managed???

I know this is one of those threads people read and ignore, but I really wud like to know if this has happened to anyone because it seemed so bizzarre!

Haha. I was feeding them one day and he was so excited he jumped out of the tank onto the floor and my dog was sitting on the sofa licking her lips. I crapped my pants screaming and shouting and he was flapping about on the floor, he looked like a multicoloured lolipop. Then i ran out the kitchen got my net and put him back in.

Mine often click :D haven't heard about them having spike on their noses i was once told that their gill plat can puff out and slice into your hand, so if ever moving them never to cradle the net in you're hand dont no weather thats tru or not

my clowns tend to click when they are eating. As for the spikes, they only flair when they feel they are being threatened. Just gotta watch em if you're netting them. that is if you can catch them!

i thought the clicking was when they are really happy? maybe he realised he was really happy, got excited because of this, and tried hugging you for making him so happy? :fun: just a thought... :fun:

The eye spikes are popped up when stressed or treatened and they hurt (I experienced that after stupidly attempting to pick up a yoyo loach of mine which jumped out of my tank during a water change...the spike then proceded to get caught in the carpet and I blindly cut with a pair of scissors to cut it free and got it :) They click alot when eating (my yoyo's do that) and appears to be a happiness thing :D

Ok, so he doesn't hate me too much then, good, it still freaked me out though!

No No, he definately hates me, he just did it again exactly the same, He's realllllly territorial, but only to my hand!!

I tried to explain that if they stopped uprooting the plants I wouldn't have to keep gardening but I'm not even sure he understood... Or at least he was pretending not too... Rude B@$%@rd!!! No more snails for a week!

I really do hope you're joking about the no snails thing. Clown loaches can't comprehend that. And they are extreemly playful and inquisitive, so he may just be having fun with you.

No Gankutsuou I'm deadly serious, my doctor says its all in my head but I know different, they hear me... I know they hear me, sometimes they tell me to stop taking my pills so I can hear them better.

Lighten up buddy, I'm just kidding.
