Is This Heater Appropriate

I now have a 2foot / 55L tank.

I'm going 'tropical' and require a heater.

For this size of tank would a 200w heater be alright ?

If so - which one (brand) should I definitely get / avoid ?

It's a little overkill to be honest, something like a 75-100 would be plenty sufficient. Elite heaters are pretty good but i would recommend visi-therm myself.

I'd been offered a friends 'old' heater but was not sure if it was appropriate or not.

It will work fine, but could also produce temperature fluctuations whilst it turns off, will take slower to cool down than an appropriate sized heater would, making the temp still rise, alot of people don't see any problems with this happening but for me i always like to be cautious when my fish are involved (maybe a little over cautious, never a bad thing though ).
