What type of food do you feed?

What type of food do you feed?

Flakes and bloodworms once a week. Have been feeding them twice a day, about enough for them to eat in 2 minutes. Should I feed them less, maybe what they can eat in 30 seconds, twice a day? They also graze on my plants all day.

It's a bit off, looks semi transparent in the upper part.
Monitor it over the next few weeks and if it continues, then deworm the fish.

-----------------
Rainbowfish need plant matter in their diet. They will pick at algae, Duckweed and most soft leaf aquarium plants.

You can use goldfish flakes and pellets, vege flakes/ pellets and plants based fish foods for them.

At least half their diet should be plant based.

-----------------
When you feed fish, offer a little bit of food and let them eat it all. Then offer a little bit more and let them eat that. Continue doing this for a couple of minutes or until the fish are not rapidly attacking and eating the food.
Remove any uneaten food after feeding.

Don't use frozen bloodworms for rainbowfish. Some brands cause problems to them (internal bacterial infections). Use frozen brineshrimp, daphnia, mysis shrimp, marine mix or prawn instead.

Don't feed rainbowfish tubifex or blackworms because they cause the same problems as frozen bloodworms.

Thanks Colin, you’ve done a lot to help out my rainbows. You know your rainbows damn well.

I recently planted a beautiful red tiger lotus, and the rainbows consumed the entire plant within a few days... it was quite incredible. Is feeding tropical flakes in the morning and vege flakes at night good? And then frozen prawn once a week.

Looks fine to me. Just some space in casing but color looks fine.

Tropical flake morning and vege flake at night is fine. You can feed raw or cooked prawn more often than once a week. I used to feed marine mix (contained prawn, fish, squid and algae) every day with flake and pellet in the morning and marine mix at night.

You can use other types of frozen foods too. I had frozen brineshrimp, mysis shrimp and marine mix as well as live daphnia, mozzie larvae, grindal worms and newly hatched brineshrimp, and alternated those throughout the week after I had fed flake or marine mix.
