I messaged recently regards my guppy and his "shimmy". Now i have started to notice his tail is not looking brilliant. I have a tank with 5 males and they do nip each other, but his tail looks very ragged and clamped at bottom. Its always hard with pics, as they are constantly moving...Other than that he seems fine. Other guppies seem fine. Water params are 0 A 0 Ni and 20 Nt. Last did 50% change on Sunday.

Hmm, he doesn't look right, for sure. He looks like a Guppy Endler hybrid, and he looks bloated. His belly looks more like a gravid female than a male.

Oh, and the trouble with taking photos thing, a short video can be even more helpful, since seeing how the fish moves can add a lot of clues, and it's easier than trying to take still photographs :)

I dont measure KH, but everything else is up there. Also could only seem to add a GIF for video. I have to admit I havent done a GH test in a while and was shocked to see that my PPM has only dropped by two degrees since doing 1 part RO to 3 part tap.

Your ammonia and nitrite levels look fine but nitrate does look a bit high - it is impossible to judge just how high from a photo. How does your tank nitrate compare with your tap nitrate?

My nitrate is kind of in-between colours as I always read about API. Its lighter than 40ppm but is darker than 20ppm, the tube is not in best light where I took photo. I know lowest ppm is better, but ive never worried unless it was to go over 40ppm, as I read that was generally a safe zone between 0-40ppm

That is a bit out of date I'm afraid - we should keep nitrate below 20 ppm. But this can be tricky where tap water has nitrate above 20 ppm. How high is your tap nitrate?

I havent actually checked...Ill have a look. If it helps, im moving from 1 part RO - 3 part tap next change to 2:2. That should help with nitrate right?

Is it worth putting the little guy into quarantine with a dose of salt and see if he improves?

ive been watching him and he seems to be swimming the same circle away from his pals ????

What do you use to remove chlorine from your tap water?(sorry if youve already said)

Thanks. I don't believe that also removes nitrate and ammonia like seachem prime does? If not, and your tap water is high in nitrate, i really do recommend Prime, very concentrated so goes a long way.

I use Fluval BIO Enhancer which is supposed to help with those....Will Prime do everything? I.e. The only chemical I need to add at change time?
