So you can buy it in a pharmacy if you have a prescription? I have a slight sign of BGA and I lowered the light mass and light period considerably. I also decided to reduce all injection of nutrients. Should I do something different? This seems to keep it down.

Yes. It is a very popular antibiotic used to treat all sorts of common ailments.

As for BGA treatment - cutting back light may help but be careful reducing nutrients i.e. nitrates. BGA if very often attributed to tanks with low NO3 - do you know your level?

IME BGA starts in the substrate and is caused by a combination of low NO3 and poor substrate maintenance. I keep BGA at bay by regularly dosing KNO3 (that helps plant growth and keeps all other algae away) and regularly sliding a credit card between my front glass and gravel as this is where it appears to originate. I also have a healthy population of Malaysian Trumpet Snails that help keep the substrate "fresh".

The little bit of BGA I had recently between the gravel and glass was effectilvely treated using small pieces of a Maracyn tablet, using tweezers to insert them into the infected area. It appears to have been completely eradicated but I continue to use the credit card trick just in case.

Just an update.

I'm adding my final dose of maracyn tonight.

day 2 - the bga had returned.
day 3 - it was still there, but no worse.
day 4 - i didn't want to get too excited but it looked like the bga was reducing slightly.
day 5 (today) - the only visible bga is on the sand, but is an improvement from day 2.
